I.T Contracting - what's the market like in Dublin right now?

    Hi folks,

Could any I.T Contractors out there comment on what the Contractor market is reallylike at the moment, as opposed to the distorted view painted by multiple Recruiters who seem to post the same few jobs (same descriptions anyway) and those jobs are already posted on IrishJobs.ie by the original Company.

I have an interview coming up for a six month Contract and i'm wondering if i'd be mad to pack in my Permanent job (65k) in the expectation that i could Contract in Dublin for a few years.

I was talking to one recruiter last week who told me it was slow, while his colleague told me it was buoyant two minutes later. Those people are even less trustworthy than estate agents!

    Thanks.

Depends on a couple of factors.
How good are you? Can you hit the ground running with no training and do the jobs that nobody else can do?
Secondly, it really depends on what area you're in.
The market is booming for proven consultants with experience delivering complicated technical projects.

Last factor is daily rate. You'd want a daily rate of €500 to make it worthwhile leaving a perm at 65k.
I've been IT contracting right out of college, and I'll tell you that a six month contract will always be extended indefinitely for the right person.
