Forgive the ignorance but what is the Port Tunnel plan that is TBC?

I'd imagine it's a bus running out to the airport.

"An Taisce has published a schematic 'London Underground' style map of current transport proposals that might realistically happen. It includes the Red and Green Luas, the Phoenix Park Tunnel, Maynooth and Kildare line electrification, ..."

    Realistically happen?
DART 2, 3 and 4 are labelled '2014'. Is Mr. Leavy seriously suggesting that the Maynooth, Dunboyne and Kildare lines could all be electrified within this calendar year?
Is he aware that the only plan involving the Phoenix Park Tunnel that has been put forward was from an individual crank and has been roundly dismissed by the NTA?
What the **** is the "Port Tunnel (TBC)" running from "GPO/Marlboro/Abbey/O'Connell Br." (that is in no way a single location), to the The Point supposed to be?
And where on earth are DART Underground and Metro North? Y'know, the two biggest transport projects that are still formally on the official future transport plans for Dublin. We're just ignoring them?

More pointless crayon drawing unworthy of discussion. If it came from one of the more unhinged contributors to this forum, I'd just roll my eyes. But this is from the Hon. Secretary of an organisation that is a supposed major player in planning oversight in this country. If this is genuine, the man is not fit for the office he holds and the reputation of the organisation he represents is seriously undermined.

Amazing that he's been quick enough to integrate the recent indicative BRT lines but refers to Arrow, a brand which has been out of use for about 10 years now.

An extremely odd bit of crayoning, I know An Taisce has some interest in planning (mainly getting in the way of it, by all accounts), but this seems exceptionally outside their remit.

I was wondering that myself, surely we already have enough Quango's involved in transport without other ones sticking their nose in!

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

I seem to recall a group called Platform who presented an impressive plan for the tunnel line years back. I think it routed kildare line trains towards Bray with space made free on the the nothern line by turning the howth branch into a shuttle.

Brilliantly simple and a good stepping stone to the Interconnector by DART-ing the tunnel line from Connelly to Hazehatch.

DART 4 is indicated as a route between Connolly and Hazelhatch via Dumcondra and PPT- where the **** are they getting that from? And apparently we are getting an electrified DART line from Maynooth to GCD this year, and also two new stations on the line? What ****ing garbage is this, and why is An Taisce wasting our money on it?

Looking at An Taisce's 2012 Financial Statements, they received €4m from government sources and spent €2.1m on 55 staff. God know that money could be spent on far better projects then that shower.

Terrible map. Even if the information was accurate, it's quite difficult to use.

Three DART lines to be made in this calendar year? Are they seriously having a laugh with us or what.

An Taisce must have acknowledged by now that

    1) The government just don't have the money for it at the moment because the country is trying to recover from a bailout

    2) The planning applications/hearings for DU and MN (in which it appears they aren't included in the plans) are currently at a standstill

    3) The Hon. Sec has no authoritative mandate to be a secretary because he is so unfit at the job

    4) Both IE and Transdev/RPA need to order even more rolling stock, build more lines/extensions (more electrification for DART), hire more staff which in turn will cost a shell-load of money in which these companies currently do not have as "money does not grow on trees", meaning it will come from the taxpayers instead

    5) An Taisce must also acknowledge that Dublin Bus which are going to run the BRT 1 on Dublin northside is going to be a short to medium term solution. MN is going to eventually become a permanent replacement for BRT in the long term, especially when three proposed are all open

Either they immediately reform themselves or just close down as another of our bloated quangos not fit for public duty. I can assure you if sense prevailed in this country, we wouldn't miss them when they are gone.

If An Taisce causes this level of annoyance here, then just imagine how much they annoy the vested interests that would turn the whole of Ireland into the sprawled, shoddily built and train free mess that is Letterkenny.

    Job done!

Every time I visit a National Trust property in the UK I get the "Why don't you become a member?" spiel from them and when I point out I live in Ireland they then helpfully point out that if I was a member of their "sister" organisation in Ireland, An Taisce, I could get free entry to NT properties as well. I don't think they understand when I then burst out laughing :D

Yes. Isn't it funny that an NT volunteer doesn't get the dislike of An Taisce thing. How silly of them not to know.

To be fair, I do usually follow up my initial derisive snort of laughter by attempting to explain to them that despite the claim on their web page to be the "National Trust for Ireland" that any resemblance between the two organisations ends there.

I think they are going to land aircraft in the tunnel, well I wouldn't be surprised.

IF they're going to come out with this map that will never happen, they might as well throw in a south dublin orbital route. Although, god forbid south dublin might be linked with Tallaght and the west side.

This is apparently a map of live public transport proposals in 2014. By what measure is Cherrywood to Shanganagh a live public transport proposal? Can't remember hearing anything about that for donkey's years.

    Wouldn't imagine it's a priority for Dublin.
