Shopping lists - how do you remember what you need to buy?

I often forget something when i'm shopping in the supermarket that I have to write everything down on my phone. Always seems to happen when its more than 5 items, on the way there I always rhyme off in my head what to get but when I enter the store I get memory block :( Old age or dementia, who knows :)

I've noticed more and more people using their phones as shopping lists instead of using a scrap of paper like in olden times, perhaps its just technology or people are truly losing it :)

So how do you remember what to throw into your trolley in the supermarket when you're on your big shop? (popping into your tiny convenient store doesn't count!)

I walk around looking for inspiration. And remember I wanted Mayonnaise when I'm at the other side of the shop etc. Usually forget at least one item but it's usually not essential.

I go out with a list in my head. Half the stuff I come home with get added to that list when I get to the shops, with half the stuff on the orriginal list still on the shop shelves when I get home.

    :D

All the gigs of Ram in the world are no good without a hard drive and processor.

Sure I do bring a list with me and still forget lots of things. Have to go back the next day then for cheese, bananas and teabags.

I'll always remember the essentials and then just get what I'm in the mood for. At the moment I have enough tea and coffee for a month because I forgot I'd bought some last week.

Even an shopaholic addict like you forgets things, there is no hope for the rest of us!!

If you're just getting a few items just list them out... then say.. 'i need to get six items'. or whatever

Then when you get the the shop you'll know the exact number of items you have forgotten.

Just use a good auld fashioned scrap-piece-of-paper and a pen tbh!
    Who needs a fancy phone-app?!

I live a minute's walk from the supermarket, so go in every other day to get a few things and I prefer it that way. Get a bigger shop Friday morning but I buy the same stuff every week, so remember out of habit. Between himself and myself, we always have everything we need. When I lived alone and further from the supermarket, I made a written list.

I bring empty wrappers of food items from my bin at home so I know what I have to replace.

Plot the meals for 3-5 days in advance and work out the list from there. The meal plan and the lists for the butcher/grocer/supermarket are all written on the same piece of paper. There's also a chalkboard in the kitchen for noting down specific things as we run out of them.

All very uptight and boring to most no doubt, but we've got it down to eating like kings for 5 euro per head per day and almost zero food waste.
