Depends. I have put 11speed cassettes (Campag) on a 2009 Reynolds wheel which previously only had 10 speed Shimano on it.

Actually, I would have bought an 11 speed freehub for Campag, so scratch that.

I have dura ace 7800 10 speed hub. Would the 11speeder fit ?

    Doubtful, but I've never tried.

Says here these can take 9,10 and 11speed. Though the first two might use spacers ?

Do you have a Dura-Ace cassette?

No Im looking at new ultegra but didn't factor that my wheels/freehub might not take the 11speed cassette. My hubs are these picture on the bottom, the top two.

    Jaysus, I'm happy with a 7-speed cassette (13-21 tooth, and I only use 4-5 of them…)

Seriously though, is there any real benefit from having more ratios? - reminds me of the Megahertz Wars in computing.

Ok, so could you propose some new set of wheels to fit the U6800 ?

Was thinking of the shimano ones from link above.

recently put an ultegra 11 speed on to a set of cosmic carbones.Somebody on here told be it should work and it did.The 11 speed is 1.85 mm wider so basically you have to lose 1.85 in spacers.if you have no spacers you could be in trouble allright.Trial and error all part of the fun.

I don't want carbon wheels. Just gonna buy the groupset and wheels or a new bike.

For years most/all Mavic freehubs have required that you use a spacer with a 10 speed cassette as the stock freehub is acutally wider than the cassette, wide enough to take an 11 speed cassette as it happens (whether by accident or some long-sighted design I've no idea). So if you bought new or second hand Mavic wheels today they will almost certainly be 11 speed compatible.

With other brands it varies but most "older" freehubs will not be 11-speed compatible. In some cases you can buy a replacement freehub to upgrade to 11speed - this is the case with Powertap hubs for example, and I've read of at least one other brand that allows this as well but I don't recall which brand off-hand. In many other cases you have to replace the entire hub. In short, you need to research it for any wheel/hub you are interested in.
