I've just seen The Godfather on Netflix. Is it just me or is it less grainy than the 'Coppola Restoration' BluRay? If so, what version is it?

I don’t know, but Netflix is heavily compressed, hence less detail/grain. Or like a lot of Netflix content, it could be from a specially encoded HDTV master which has undergone excessive DNR.

Netflix sometimes has some odd versions of things, Ghostbusters on there looks awful in some scenes whereas the blu-ray is way cleaner looking, and it's not the streaming thing either as this is actual built in grain.

Seen it in the IFI last weekend (back to back with GFII) and it looked amazing.

Anyone know if it was a restored print?

By the way, did anyone else buy the first-run of the Godfather box-set. The Part 2 disc froze after about an hour. The distributor sent out replacement discs to anyone that purchased it. The problem is I bought mine in about 2007/2008, but never got around to watching them until 2012. I'm still landed with the bloody thing. So always check your discs as soon as you buy them!

They still haven't fixed the issue where you can see Coppolla's face on screen during the funeral scene near the end, seriously keep an eye out for it, it's when Michael is sitting there watching the other family heads arrive. keep an eye on anything dark on screen and you can see Coppolla's face and someone else beside him maybe an editor, it's mental.

    You mean this?

It’s actually Mamma Corleone. It was an in-camera optical error. They scene was rushed and they didn’t have time to set up properly. Even Coppola never noticed it until Ebert pointed it out to him several years ago.

That it, I was full sure you can see someone with a beard in it too I always assumed it was Coppola, thought it was mental. I noticed it watching it years ago and thought I was imagining things ha

Yes, and wait'll you hear... I bought my blu-ray set in HMV the week it came out. A few weeks later I began watching them and noticed the malfunction. Went back and got a replacement. Sorted, I thought. Nope. Same problem. Don't ask me why, but I didn't go back this time - just kept them. Went off and bought the Restoration on DVD a few months ago so I could see Part Two. Yes, I am an idiot.

That's made me feel slightly better about myself. Cheers. :P
