This would be the death of me. I already overwhelm myself with information on a daily basis, and if speed reading becomes a habit of mine, I reckon I'll soon forget my family's names and where I live!

    That's amazing.

I was thinking it would take the joy out of reading in that your mind wouldn't really be processing what it's seeing and just trying to speed through, but it's not the case.

    No thanks.

Most of my enjoyment of reading comes from the excercising of the mind. Digesting the narrative, immersing myself in the text, perhaps rereading a line over and over to get a proper gist of the intentions of the author.

    In other words, balls.

I completely agree, I wouldn't use it for a novel.. But for my hobby of reading countless articles, it's useful.

It would be handy for swotting for a table quiz

Except you might blink and miss out on the entire 2nd world war

Could be useful for studying but I don't think I'd enjoy reading a novel that way...

I heard these readers will also come with clips that you can use to pin your eyelids back, so don't have to blink and miss a word.

I used to think I could read fast, but the 500 words a minute part was too much for me. Maybe the app has a callibration mode where you can select your optimum reading speed?

    I'll give it a go, but I expect headache-city after a while.

It's reading, for those who can't be bothered thinking about what they're reading.

Probably the most important part of reading anything that you want to learn from, is exercising critical thinking to spot the faults in what you're reading - and with an Internet full of disinformation pretty much everywhere, this is just a good way of helping to brainwash yourself into absorbing nonsense.

Agree with that aswell. Knowing when to use it is key and taking breaks every few paragrapgs.. Try it though, it's like listening to your voice inside your head as opposed to regular reading. I'm a convert anyways because most of the stuff I read isn't debatable, just raw information.
