CAP1 as External Student

Hi All, apologies if this has been asked before but I' just looking for some advice regarding doing CAP1s as an external student.

I have exemptions from all but Financial Accounting and Taxation so I hope to do these during the Autumn exam session 2014 with the hope of passing them and then being able to register for the CAP2 exams as part of the Elevation Programme and take these in summer 2015.

I studied a bit of accountancy in college as part of a business degree however this was several years ago so it wouldn't be too fresh in my mind! Just wondering how difficult these would be to take on purely doing the study myself and also if anybody is aware of any courses/grinds which I could take outside of Chartered Accountants Ireland ?

Also any input from anyone who has gone down this route would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks an Advance for any replies!

I am in CAP 2 now. Did CAP1 last year. I decided to take it up in September 2012, when it became apparent I couldn't get a job (I studied Science but didn't come out with the best deree).
I went into it with no experience and passed all exams 1st time round, except tax which I passed in the repeats.
I was studying from home (on elevation programme), and that suited me well at the start. You can view lectures online, and review/rewind as necessary to make sure you understand what is being covered.

I have no experience with grinds. Best of lick with it if you choose to pursue it.

Thanks for the reply! I was under the impression that doing them externally would mean I wouldn't have access to any lecture materials (notes or online lectures) ? I would just have to buy the books for each subject and do it myself. I really want to get them done so I can start the cap2 course in October rather then waiting another year, hence why I'm a bit concerned. It's great to hear you passed so many first time around tho gives me a bit more confidence!

Sorry, I misunderstood....I thought you were talking about registering on the elevation programme. Your talking about only registering for the exams. In that case there's not much advice I can give.
What I would recommend is to ring the institute and discuss with them. Sorry I couldn't be of much more help

I did Tax and Law externally and I'm fairly sure I had access to online lectures, notes and exam papers/solutions!
