    Well folks, here's the story

I'm in rural wexford between new Ross and enniscorthy.
Currently with permanet, I'm ready to cry because of their service, trying to get them to fix problems is impossible, today's excuse they told me that the router I have wasn't supplied by them.
My download speed is 1.95 and upload is 0.24.
I need satellite broadband because my phone line is bundled and doesn't support broadband, but every company I find I look at their reviews and they're shocking.
    Can anyone help.?

Isn't much help but I remember a time, when I was living in Limerick and all I could get was around 3kB/s over dial up. This was over 10 years ago however... ADSL was not an option as the phone line was not of good enough quality. (Eircom's line to me was that they only need to support a voice call and as I was talking to the tech support using the phone there was no fault!) I dreamed about a connection such as yours!

Fast forward 10 years and what you are getting is horrible, I sympathise entirely but your location terrible. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for something decent to come along.

I know but home is home.
I'm not even fussed about the speed, I just want a reliable service!

Search irelandoffline.org, it will give you an idea of BB suppliers in your area should you wish to get away from your currrnt ISP.

    https://www.ripplecom.net

All have some coverage down that way.
As far as quality goes they would likely be hit and miss but couldn't be too much worse than what you have.

What are the mobile operator's offerings like? O2,3,Vodafone etc? I know Voda have made big improvements to their 3G service in the Wexford area. I find 3 very usable in Enniscorthy. If you found one of those operators that could provide a dependable service, you could put the dongle into a usb wireless router.

These days usually you get a router and modem combo from your ISP. With ADSL and cable at least.

They may also only supply a modem.

You router may not have antennae if it is wired only although most these days would be wireless.

Perhaps a bit bit detail about the devices would help.

You could have two routers, or a modem and router.

I've both, the router is a edimax, would any router work on my modem?
Permanet told me they don't use these but I seen the tech fella install it. They want money off me for one of their ones

I'm in the same area you are and my broadband speed isn't much better, with permanet pay €50 a month with their equipment, discussed on this thread,
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=89315715
this was the reply i got the other day about it.

Thank you for your query regarding the speed of your internet connection provided by permaNET. We have reviewed your case and have concluded that we can't find any issue with your connection.
Please note that the service you are subscribed to is a contended service, this means that the bandwidth which is allocated to you can be shared among other permaNET customers. For business customers this contention ratio is 15:1, for residential customers this ration is 20:1. This is stated in our terms and conditions of service. A copy of this is available on request.
Please note that the advertised download and upload speeds of your pack are the maximum speeds you can receive at any time. permaNET does not guarantee that you will receive these speed at all times.
Even though your speed is currently slower than it has been it is still within the contention ratio mentioned above.
At permaNET we work hard to provide our customers with a high quality service and we always aim to provide our customers near maximum speeds at all times.
We have a number of upgrades planned which will improve the speed of the service throughout the day.
Currently we don't have a timeframe for when this work will be completed by, until this work is complete you will not be receiving maximum download speed during peak times.
Please don't hesitate to contact us should you wish to discuss this further.

    Kind regards

    Keith
