    HI there,

My wife is on Disability Allowance and she is going to apply for me as a dependent on her claim. Once this is done I'm thinking of applying for half-rate carers allowance as well but I want to know if I do get carers, would I be able to study a full-time course (for one year)? I couldn't see an answer to this on citizensinformation, so hopefully someone here might be able to help.

    Thanks a lot.

Going half-rate Carer's still means you are a Carer for your wife.
When you are applying for Carer's, you'll have to fill out a booklet with lots of questions about your wife and her ailments and what she needs help with.

They will be assuming you're available to care for her; half-rate Carer's or not.
If you tell them you'll be doing a full-time course, they might want to know who'll be looking after your wife.

Half-rate Carer's can work 15 hours a week maximum and still keep their money but I'm not sure where you'll stand with a full-time course.
Can you contact Citizen's Advice and ask them?

    They're usually friendly and helpful.
By the way, you'll be in for a long wait before you receive news about your Carer's application-last I heard there's a backlog of about a year.
