Apologies if this is elsewhere but Des Smyth and Sam Torrance are the vice captains with 1 to be picked after the team is selected.

Keeping a place for Paul Lawrie if he fails to make the team?

I wasn't aware that they were to pick another after the team.
I had previously said that I thought Lawrie would get a captains pick into the team (to have some Scottish representation) but knowing this, I think he will probably get the nod for vice captain if he doesn't get an automatic place (which is fairly unlikely)

I think it's important to have a Scots man in the fold, having Lawrie as a VC would be a perfect way to do this.

Edit: Maybe the mods want to merge it into this thread

Personally I think Torrance is a great choice.

or Bernard Gallagher, once he is fully fit again? that could be a master stroke.

    and

    :o

Don't know how I missed that... I was thinking about the team and no Scot and blanked out Sam on the vice captain side of things.

I would still give it to Lawrie, 2 Scots as VC is good, I would be surprised to see a Scot make the team so no problem doubling up with 2 VC's

Surely it's Padraig who the reserved place is most likely for if he doesn't make the team?

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Stephen Gallagher make the team.

I don't think he will pick another Scot for the sake of picking another Scot as part of the back room team. I think he will pick someone who he feels will deliver to the team.

Ironically IMO, that could actually be a Scot........ Mr Monty, don't know how his name hasn't been mentioned yet

Rather like picking a government cabinet, you would be wise to spread the love. Don't want too many Jocks or Paddies in a pan European event. A Scandinavian, Spaniard and or English would be a sensible move
