IOSH Western District are holding a FREE FARMYARD SAFETY and WINDFARM CONSTRUCTION talk on Tue March 11th 2014 in the Maldron Hotel, Oranmore, Galway from 7pm - 9pm.

The event will be open to everyone, but booking is ESSENTIAL.

There will be two presentations on the night. The Farmyard Safety presentation will be delivered by a HSA Agriculture inspector. It will be an excellent opportunity to learn some very useful information from an industry health and safety expert.

Sadly, there have already been a number of fatal accidents in the farming sector this year. We want to help this number reach ZERO.

To book a place at the event please email aine.newell@ul.ie

    Thanks for letting us know.

Who or what does IOSH stand for?

    Thanks for your interest.

Well, IOSH is the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health. It is basically an international group of health and safety professionals.

In Ireland there are a number of districts, the IOSH Western District (my district) covers Galway, Clare, Limerick, Laois and Offaly. We organise approx. five / six free seminars a year on various health and safety topics.

These seminars are usually free and open to members and non-members.

Working in a practical areas l am very conscious of the importance of H&S.

Would ye be separate to the health and safety Authority?

That's great! I'm glad to hear it.

Yes, IOSH is very much separate from the Health and Safety Authority. But our district often have speakers from the Health and Safety Authority when they kindly volunteer to speak at our events.

I guess IOSH would be similar to the Institute of Chartered Accountants or Engineers Ireland - only for health and safety.

The Western District committee members represent IOSH on a voluntary basis and meet every month to plan different events to provide useful information and to promote health and safety.
