Peugeot 307 Boot Problem

The boot on my car (07) won't open  The button on the boot stopped working a few months ago and now the key remote button won't open it. There's no place to physically open it with the key either :(

I'm based in north county Dublin and don't know who I should bring it to. Peugeot will charge an arm and a leg to get this problem fixed (my colleague had a similar problem on her 307 and was charged over €850 and the problem still isn't fixed fully).

I'm clueless when it comes to the electrics whether it should be a mechanic or someone else.

    TIA

I've had this issue on a 407 and would hazard a guess that it's the same on a 307. If you can put the back seats down and climb into the boot there is a small hole on the boot lock, on the top left of it iirc. If you stick a small screwdriver into it and wiggle it around a bit the boot should pop open.

Then unclip the flexible rubber hosing that carries the wires from the car to the boot and check them for damage. It's more than likely that that's where the problem is, wires can be either broken or (in my case) bare. Anyone handy with wiring and a bit of solder can fix or extend these wires a bit to take the pressure off them.

Over time from opening and closing the wires can rub off each other and become bare or brittle.

    Oops typo it's a 407.

My husband has gotten in to the boot to open it through the way you've described. If I brought it to a mechanic; is it a big job money wise?

Bootwires.jpgNo should be a simple job, did it myself in ten minutes so not sure what people would charge (i'm no mechanic but did a fair bit of wiring in my time). As long as the person fixing it is handy with repairing a little wiring then it's fine and as long as they don't go trying to trace the fault all over the loom or replace the whole wire. They might have to take the lining off the boot depending on where exactly the wires broke which could take a bit longer.

Here's a pic of the damage on mine.

As you can see, three wires damaged, the blue one quite badly so I cut it, stripped it back a little and put in a joiner. The other two I just insulated with heat shrink for now.
