Hello we just added a new addition to our home a little springer spaniel. I'm wondering can anybody recommend a dog day care that would be good for socialising him and we are going away on holidays in the summer and need to choose a kennel for ten days any recommendation :-D

    Hey OP,

It might be a bit far away, but maybe have a look at Doggy Day care in Ennis. They have the day care facility and then in the evenings an association with a kennel nearby who come and pick the dog up and then bring it back to doggy day care the next morning. It is the same price as normal day care (15 euro).

The kennels themselves are nothing flash compared to others I have seen, but my boy came back happy and exhasuted. He was in doggy day care & the kennels for 3 weeks over Christmas and the last week of that was just the kennels as day care was closed from xmas to new year. I picked him up in the middle of the day from the kennels and he was tired in a good way - I could tell that he'd had the exercise he needed and he smelt of cow poo - not a good thing, but at least I knew he'd been out and about! Cooper also loves the doggy day care and goes normally once a week just for fun.

This is compared to a flash kennel I had him in for one night and he came back wired the next day - he just hadn't had the exercise.

From the feedback I've got about this place, I would not be leaving my dog here.
There are posters from Galway here who have recommended places more locally to you in previous threads, hopefully they'll be along to suggest places.

Trusty pet pals have a day care in briarhill that i've always found good. They don't do boarding any more though. There's a place in moycullen called big and small, haven't heard much good about it though haven't used it my self. She does daycare and boarding. My friend used killanin kennels and she said if your dog would be ok out of a home environment they're good. To be honest i'd go visit a few places and see what vibe you get yourself.

Also regarding socialising you'd probably be better off attending classes with your dog. Tara from west dog is great and does puppy classes in westside.

How old is the pup? I work in a doggie daycare and from my experience most puppies under 7 months old or so cannot handle being in a daycare for any more than 2-3 hours at a time, they get very tired and often a little cranky. Whichever place you choose, try and make sure that if your dog is left in the daycare for long periods of time, that the dog has access to a quiet area if possible to rest and get away from the more energetic dogs.

Tara might be worth a call on the off-chance she knows someone reputable that can help you.

Doggy day care in ballybrit are brilliant I have never had any problems with them, I leave my dog there at least twice a week. As for overnight stays tho I have never needed that option so I wouldn't know.

    Hello ....
We are based in moycullen we tried trusty pet pals in ballybrit while we were very happy we decided to try big and small as it is more convenient for work etc

Our little man loves big and small he runs in the door in the morning he seems very well cared for and Gabrielle and her team are extremely attentive to our little man it is all about him .... it is extremely accessible and she opens seven days a week .

We also did our basic puppy training with tara from Madra she was fantastic

My close friends and parents have recommended the dog company for boarding he is based beside big and small

Ps living social are doing a half price pass at the moment :-)

    Hope this helps

I only have positive things to say about Gabriela and Corvin at Big and Small. I bring Ollie there 5 days a week and he loves it, well as much as a neurotic little weirdo like him can anyway! He runs in the door in the mornings, rather than being dragged in by the lead as used to happen at the other place out in Ballybrit. Nothing wrong with Trusty Pet Pals don't get me wrong, they just didn't suit Ollie's temperament. They're perfectly fine for normal, well adjusted dogs.

Also B&S have very good prices especially if you avail of the monthly discounts.

Off topic, moycullengirl, is your pup the little brown and white spaniel who I've spotted there recently? If so, you have THE cutest puppy I've ever seen in my life :D Have such a soft spot for springers.
