Hi, I have been considering getting a Rolex sea dweller/deep sea.
I am confused by the prices. Seems both versions despite age only devalue to a point despite none seem to be getting serviced by rolex.
clearly if I buy anything over 2 years old it will need a 500e plus service by rolex.
Are the older versions better made ?
    Any thoughts/advice welcome.

I would question the need for a service after 2 years. I would have thought more like 4-5 years unless the timekeeping is giving you cause for concern.

In terms of the choice between Deep Sea and Sea Dweller you should consider that the the DSSD is substantially larger and heavier; it's a fabulous watch but isn't for everybody. I would venture that it also has a substantially better bracelet/clasp than the SD but you do pay for that. It's also probably worth considering how much text you can stand on the dial/rehaut ring :p.

Rolexes retail prices increase 10-15% every year or two hence residuals are pretty solid at least for stainless steel sports watches

The deep sea sea dweller is a monster size wise, have you considered the current model submariner with ceramic bezel?

Hi and thanks for both your comments.
Size and weight not an issue but a good point. My daily wearer is a Panerai Luminor, dirty work wearer is G shock solar and diving is a Citizen aqualand .( ? not sure it buried in the scuba gear).
I have an Omega speedmaster (moon one) which I find very small when I wear it..... and then I forget to wind it. (cringe)
I would go for a larger than 40mm given a choice.

Only option on Rolex then is the new dssd or the new 42mm exp 2

Or the Yachtmaster II, but I think it's an awfully gaudy looking thing.
