Dallas lawyer George P. Bush is the Republican candidate for Texas Land Commissioner in the November 2014 elections. This is a very powerful political position in America's 2nd largest state (population estimate 26,448,193), especially with its influence and regulation of Texas oil properties. Texas is the leading crude oil-producing state in the nation.

Some may think there are serious conflicts of interest having a candidate running for this position, given the investments in oil by the Bush family. Others may say that his family's knowledge of the oil industries would be valuable towards representing voter interests regarding its use and regulation.

Many Republicans see George P. Bush as a future national leader of their party. He is the son of Jeb Bush, former Florida governor, is the nephew of former US president G.W. Bush, and the grandson of former US president George H. W. Bush.

The Hispanic voter demographic is the fastest growing minority in the US, and George P. Bush's mother is Columba Bush, who is Hispanic and born in Mexico. Bush is a fluent speaker in both English and Spanish, which may add to his appeal in future national elections.

But will the US vote for another Bush as president someday?

Hilary is only married into the Clintons. The Bushes are all from the same genetic material though.

George P. Bush sounds like a genetically engineered super candidate. 1/2 GOP establishment and 1/2 Latino.

    Is he any good though?

It is not about genes, it is about thought.

We need new thinkers in Washington DC, yet all we get are the political dynasties of Clintons, Bushes, and Kennedys.

The founding fathers had it right - we need our politicians to be servants and not lifers. Even more-so, we need to stop voting these political families that churn out more of the same.

These families are, unfortunately, more of the same, than different.

    Whats wrong with the Clintons?

The bush's have been in politics for generations, clearly nepotism played a huge part of their hold on power, so I can understand your issues with them but the Clintons?

Its just Bill and his wife, and only one of them has been president so far (and one of the most popular for a long time), there's no way you can call that a dynasty.

The Republican party just shut down any attempts at Immigration Reform by the Democratic party. Which is just the latest chapter in their alienation of the Hispanic vote.

Whether the fact that prescott(?) bush has a mother who was born in Mexico (but not a mexican??) would sway them we shall have to see but I suspect not.

Oh and willys also to blame for the deregulation of the banks so that they could rob everyone.. Real stand up people... Or absolute **** on my shoe

    Pfft. You're parroting republican gossip.

Years of congressional investigations by the republicans revealed.... nothing.

And the republicans were out for his blood too.

And he would have won the 2000 election in a Landslide if he'd run.

Personally I think he was the best president in my lifetime, A great friend to Ireland too, The US was in a much better place with him, both politically and economically. I'm no Republican and I don't think his so called sex scandals were bad because people have affairs etc its human nature..

Its his cia links I have a problem with, Do a bit of googling...

As for the 2000 election, What a rig !!

What ever office he runs for it should be 'merited not inherited'. Just because he's a Bush doesn't mean he should be a shoe in. I'd have to hear what his economic, social, and foreign policy position's are before I'd hand him my vote.

Two Bush's have been elected, ran on promises that they didn't fulfil, went to war, and gave America a bad economy. Bush II gave us the worst crisis since the Great Depression.

So the person closest to you (your husband) is knobbing around and blatantly lying about it but you 'stand by him' to retain power and position. Is this a good qualification/background to become leader of one of the world superpowers?
    Don't even mention the Bushes!

Does it make you wonder why the US voter creates these family political dynasties? Yes, they have name brand recognition because they remain in the public eye, and many have made their careers in politics. Family oil wealth provides resources the average citizen does not have. But there are over 300 million citizens to chose from, many with political qualifications. Why a Bush so frequently?

EDIT: Started a new thread on this topic. See "Family Political Dynasties in US."

Glass-Steagall was repealed under Bill Clinton. His former Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin (whose previous position was at Goldman Sachs) was a major proponent of this before he jumped ship and went back to Wall Street.
