I have accomadation booked in Spain but flights to Spain for that week are €2400 for us travelling with RA. So i priced flights With RA dublin to Manchester and then flights from manchester to spain and there costing €800:D
Is this do- able? How much time would we need beteween flights?
There 2 adults 4 children hand luggage only( we travel light).

Ryanair (FR) are a point to point airline therefore these are going to be separate bookings. It's all a matter of how open you are to risk-taking. If for any reason your Dub - Man flights are delayed or cancelled and you miss your Man - Spain flight, you are on your own and may have to fork out for a walk-up fare for all 6 of you .

If it were me, I would be looking at an overnight in Manchester.

Which actually introduces more risk because the OP would then be travelling on two separate days.

So if he flew over on Monday, stayed the night and then had his flight cancelled on Tuesday because of a lightening strike in Manchester airport or bad weather, his plans would be scuppered and all because he chose to stay overnight.

For such a short initial flight, any weather that could adversely affect flights out of Dublin will probably also have the same effect on flights from Manchester. As he has no check-in baggage, I'd go for it as long as there's at least two hours between landing and departure in Manchester.

We have done it on numerous occasions with 5 kids The only thing is you need to leave and arrive in the same airport that you park the car in. Have often gone skiing through stansted and to palma through liverpool at a fraction of the cost of flying direct with either airline from here. Now that the credit card charges are gone there is a massive saving on some flights. Stansted you need at least 2 and half hours for change over.

Thanks for the replies, i can get a flight which lands in manchester at 11.35am then flight to spain is at 1.40pm its a bit tight. If there was any delays or changes to flight schedule.
Or theres a flight that lands in manchester at 7.20am which would leave us a gap of over 5 hours which is a bit too long.
Or we could travel the evening before. Possibly would have more peace of mind.
Either way its a difference of over €1000

Then the question is if five hours of your family's time is worth €1,000?

Personally, I wouldn't risk a two hour turnaround. Remember, the landing time is the time the plane is due to hit the runway in MAN, you still have to taxi to a stand, possibly walk/take bus to terminal, collect baggage, queue at the baggage drop off (assuming you have luggage), queue at security and get back to a gate, all in two hours.

At least if you've got five hours, you can absorb some delay in departing DUB and won't be trying to peg it with a family through MAN and all the resulting stress. At least you can take some time and have a decent lunch before boarding.

I would leave plenty of time there is enough space for the kids to run around in MAN bring a few pocket games and an pack of cards. Get a bit of grub and make up a story for the kids. We went to disney paris a few years back we told the kids we were going to build a house for mickey mouse. It was great craic at the airports.

Travelling to Lanzarote next week via Frankfurt Hahn with an overnight. Saved a heap, I've never been to Germany and we arrive earlier than the first direct flight we would have been able to take. Aces!

5 hours wouldn't be so bad. By the time you get off the plane, collect your bags, have a coffee and a bite to eat it'll be time to check in again. Make sure you have enough time between flights on the return also, but otherwise definitely go for it.

Is flying to another airport an option and then organising a road transfer to your destination (thinking here of a private company - people carrier)?

For example, if you are looking at flying to Malaga, have you considered flying to Seville or Almeria as they may be much cheaper. They are only about 2 to 2.5 hours from Malaga. I would much prefer the road transfer rather than hoping you would make a connecting flight or waiting around Manchester airport.

It so crazy, it just might work! :)

IMHO that is being waaaaaay too pessimistic and over-cautious.

For starters, there is NO BAGGAGE involved since you and several other posters failed to read the original post. Carry-on only.

Secondly, both Ryanair (which the OP is proposing to fly with) and Aer Lingus allow one whole hour for that flight (DUB-MAN) in their timetables, even though it's only 265 kms point to point so the likelihood is that they will be in the terminal at Manchester at the scheduled landing time which will give them one full hour to go to the departure gate and through security and they'll still have an hour to spare.

It's Manchester, not LHR or CDG we're talking about and all Ryanair flights are into and out of T3.

    Thanks everyone for the replies.
I booked us to go to manchester the tues evening ,flight to spain wednesday afternoon. We probably could have done the two flights on the same day but i know ryan air sometimes change the flight times so if they did that i cld have been screwed! At least now i have no worries and loads of time, should be a stress free start to the holiday!
So just to clarify original flight from dublin to spain with RA were €2460, €2000 with AL, now flight dub to manc and manc to spain( incl hotel stay) €990.
Chuffed I am! I never get a bargain!
    Thanks again.

We had a lovely stay at Gasthaus am Flughafen in Lautzenhausen. A 5 minute walk from terminal. There's zero else to do but we did have a lovely stay.

IMO, you made by far the best choice. Takes most of the pressure away. On the day of your flight out of Dublin, you don't have that constant worry that a gremlin is going to make you miss your man flight.

I am always wary of booking the last flight of the evening, if that gets cancelled, if leaves no options. But assuming there is an AM flight out of dub the wed morning that will still get you to man in time for your flight to Spain, then even if the tue dub flight is cancelled, Ryan should still get you to man on the wed morning.

The MCT (minimum connection time) at MAN for most airlines is in the 45 minutes region, for FR it is 2 hours. I would have thought you were fine with your 11:35am flight arrival.

I got an email from ryanair to say the flight from spain to manchester has been changed! Its not much just by 40 mins so its still ok. I dont know about other airlines but I have noticed that ra do change the flight times. So Im glad i allowed the overnight stay in manchester for my outward trip to spain just in case they change that too!
