Are English recruitment agencies any good?

I have been reading this thread on Irish recruitment agencies, http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=52303401, and they seem to have a very bad rep according to peoples' experiences.

I was wondering if anyone has any experiences of using English recruitment agencies and are they as bad?

    Thanks.

Pretty much the same as here. If they think they can place you then you are flavour of the month. If they can't they won't bother with you at all. It depends on how marketable your CV is and if UK employers value your experience.

The one difference I found between the two is that in the UK its a numbers game in that the more CVs you send out and recruiters you deal with the better your chances of securing employment.

I know of one chap who had maybe two interviews out of many applications in Ireland in a 6 month period. He headed over to the UK and hundreds of applications later was in 6 different processes for a role. All within a month! It is a much bigger opportunity pool.

Key rule with any recruiter is don't share any processes/roles that you are in for with companies direct. Have a look at reed.co.uk for more information on potential roles. Note that this also advertises roles in Ireland as well.

Overall, they are same as here and will only engage with you if they view you as hirable to prospective employers.

@finisklin. That's interesting. Just out of curiosity, is the experience you mentioned recent?
