Avoiding unexplained phone-bills

A certain landline phone company, whom we have since cancelled our contract with, has been after us for a phone bill. On this bill there was a premium rate call to a SCAM number which we never made. (Evidence of it being a SCAM number was found online) Not only was there a call to a SCAM number but it was listed as having happened twice at the exact same time, which left us charged on the double, when it is not physically possible to call any number from the one phone twice at the exact same time.

We sent a letter and made phone calls to the phone company in question requesting an explanation for this charge but they have ignored our letter and over the phone said they will look into it. We avoided paying until this matter was dealt with but they kept issuing the bill. Nothing has happened and our bill has now been passed over to ICB (Irish Credit Bureau)

Has anybody any advise on what is the right (or wrong) thing to do in this matter.

    Thank you in advance.

whats the number and are you certain no one could have called it in your house? TBH if it was small amount I would pay it and argue after to avoid it going to Credit Burau...not worth it imho.

Dont they have to take you to court and get a judgement against you before it can affect your credit rating?
