not returning to work

    Hi

I am currently on maternity leave and trying to consider my options of returning to work.
Situation is: I have three young children (none in school yet). Childcare cost for the three is nearly what I earn a week.

If I don't return to work is there any state benefit that I can claim? I've been working since I was 16 years, only state benefit I have ever received is maternity benefit.

My husband is self employed with very little work, therefore unable to claim any benefit when not working.

When he gets work he is working 6 days a week for approx. 4-5 weeks so its impossible to plan with him minding the children and me working so my option is me staying at home full time.
    thanks

You will be unable to claim jobseekers as I presume you will not be available or looking for full time work. Your husband as a self
employed person can apply for jobseekers allowance which is a means tested payment. He will need to meet with a sw inspector and produce his most up to date accounts. If he receives a payment he can continue to work as a self-employed person while in receipt of jobseekers allowance as there will be means applied to his claim for this employment.
