Hi, I am interested in buying a car from a dealer. The NCT is just out but will be done next week. The car is 2004. Will this be tested for two years or just one year?

As it has reached its 10th birthday, it will get a test upto anniversary date 2015

2004 car, Nct expires on 6th of June. Booked the car in today so in the 28 day priority list and it will have a test in March more than likely.

Question is, will it get 1 or 2 year Nct if it passes?

You will get one year, as your car is being presented for 10th registration anniversary NCT.
Fact that actual test is carried before that, doesn't matter.

Thanks all, I always thought the cars registration day was its 'birthday' so to speak, and if tested before it that would make it a 9 year old car.

It is indeed 9 years old (or better say less than 10), but that doesn't matter.
NCT legislation clearly says about car presented for their 10th registration anniversary NCT, which falls due exactly at car's 10th birthday.
If you do it earlier, it's still the same NCT (due at 10th anniversary of 1st registration).
