Going back to seasonal work in a hotel in a few weeks....

My boss text me few days ago asking am l coming back for full time work, l said l would but tbh l don't want to go back there, l want to apply for other jobs, somewhere that l might be kept on for more than seasonal work.

l'm asking here does it look bad after l told me boss lm coming back? l know he'll be asking why do you wanna leave and deep down l just don't feel "comfortable"? around the people there, like as if l don't fit in. lm starting to dread going back there...

l just feel bad that l told my boss l would be coming back, and then a few weeks later il be using him as a referee....l only started there last year and they gave me a big break by employing me and lm v grateful, l guess l don't wanna piss off my boss..... :(

It happens - s/he will move on and deal with it.

Also, you haven't found another job yet - I'm sure you will, but it may take a bit longer than you planned.

If you're going to ask your boss for a reference, you will want to be seen to be a model employee - that includes getting on with your colleagues - team work is very, very important - especially in the services industry.

    No.

If all the boss can offer you is seasonal work, then it's totally normal to be looking for something better.

So you answer to the boss is "Absolutely I'm coming back. By the way, I'm also looking for on-going work after the season is over, is it ok if I give you as a referee for that".

Yea. It's best to be upfront.

There is nothing wrong in working while looking for more permanent employment.
