A friend of mine has just bought a 2012 1.3D astra and is having terrible problems with the DPF, in the 4 weeks he has had it the DPF warning has come on 10 times:eek: he has had it back to opel 3 times and they are saying that the DPF regens are not showing up as faults or indeed atall.9I presume they are just doing a forced regen, clearing the fault and sending him on his way)
his driving would be about 40km a day to and from work all m50 and dual carriage way, and having worked out his MPG he is getting less than 40mpg where as his wifes corsa (with the same engine and similar driving) gets 50-60mpg.
any Ideas? even if the regens were not happening atall he shouldnt have filled his dpf 10 times in 4 weeks.
I have told him to bring it back to opel and ask for it to be fixed or look for his money back but apart from the dpf problems he really likes the car and wants to keep it.

Edit:and I just noticed I spelt diesel wrong in the thread title :(

Theres something amiss there. I had use of one for a while and it was doing 50 on a bad tank with similar use.

Has it low miles? Original owner might have fecked the dpf from short driving and they are only putting off paying for it.

You have given him the best advice and he wants to ignore it, what more can you do? (unless it's really yourself, you seem to know a bit about the wife's car too!)

Try a different dealer. Warranty will be covered in any. Where's he located?

Tell him to take it back to dealer and inform them that he is rejecting it on the grounds that it's not fit for purpose. The dpf may be a renewable or repairable or replaceable items but he has given them more than ample opportunity to repair it at this stage. The car's not special enough to warrant carrying on with this crack.

He's in Dublin. I did mention this.

He's getting to this point, but he would rather go in with some knowledge of what's wrong.

So the car is throwing up dpf errors, which will disappear if the car is turned off and turned back on. No limp mode, no errors remaining when Opel plug into the car and the car is sometimes harder to start( ie it will turn over 10 times before it starts rather than catching first turn.)

I wouldn't go near another dealer if the vendor has already tried to fix and he's considering rejecting the car.

Tell them their method of fixing the problem up to now has not worked, the car is no good to you as it is and you want to know what the next step is. He needs to deal directly with the Service Manager and go up the food chain if necessary.

If he's near kilkenny I would recommend the new Opel dealer there they are Nissan for years too. They have sorted out some seriously fcuked up problems I've had with cars in the past. The service manager is sound out he will tell you straight out regardless of your knowledge of cars they never try and bullsh!t anyone. It's the only main dealer I use in Kilkenny. I just thought it was worth mentioning if they lived near Kilkenny.

i know you say is doing 40kms a day but if your stuck in M50 traffic and crawling along they will block up and can regen that many times, does any code come up on the dash?? these cars will light up like a christmas tree if something goes wrong..

It could be a faulty dpf pressure sensor or vacuum pipe split but these should show up a fault, its 2012 so probably still under opel warranty depending on when it was bought 2 years warranty from new on some 2012s but some have 5 years.

Id say check is it under opel warranty and bring it too a different dealer, if you pm me the reg i can check the warranty status (i work in an opel dealership)
