    hi
could someone tell me if I need planning to move a field gate from one side of a field to another? The old gate and new gate positions are on a public road / cul-da-sac.

Technically YES. New opening onto a public thoroughfare.

if its a public road and less than 4.0 meters then no, an entrance is exempt

Thanks sydthebeat and rayjdav for your replies, the new entrance gate will be less than 4m so should be ok.

Apologies, i wasnt clear in what i posted above

once the road you are putting the entrance on is:
    public
and less than 4.0 m wide

    then you are exempt.

The width of the entrance doesnt come into it.

    Thanks sydthebeat for the reply.

The public road is less than 4m wide so although I misunderstood you response I'm not breaching planning requirements.
