A metal alloy is 30% nickel. Another metal alloy is 70% nickel. The two alloys are mixed to produce 20kg of a metal alloy that is 48% nickel. How much of each metal alloy is used?"

Can anyone help me in writing out this equation please

Let x equal the mass of 30% nickel alloy and y equal the mass of 70% nickel alloy.

    Then,

    x+y = ?

    0.3x + 0.7y = ?

Can you fill in and solve?

    so x + y = 20
    0.3x + 0.7y =0.48
    ??? simultaneous equations from here??

    Your second equation should read

    30% of something (x) plus 70% of something (y) equals 48% of ??

Once you correct the right hand side you can easily solve using simultaneous equations.
