    Hello

I know there are some older threads on beacon motor company in Sandyford.

Some of these threads are a bit outdated at this stage.

Anybody have any experience with them lately ? Good, bad etc.

Yep my friend recently purchased a car off them. Very hard to negotiate with on price, salesman lost his cool but in the end we got what we wanted and the car seems fine. Work we asked for to be done on the car was done.

The last thread had an update 6 months ago but I suppose a new one won't harm.

Thanks. Seems to be a common thing where the salesman loses his cool !!

My approach was to consider it a private sale. I got everything done before it was purchased. Be prepared for attempts to play you by the sales staff (not just one), to confuse you and for a pain the the backside sales approach.

It was purely by chance we ended up having to return to the garage as I left something behind during the test drive, sales man thought I was coming back to give him a piece of my mind after the earlier exchange. After a chat we found common ground and the car was purchased by my friend.

Having said all that check the car over properly as you're not buying the sales staff.

    Get ya.
How do you mean getting played by the sales staff ?

We started off with one member of staff, the a second intervened, then back to the original, then the other guy, then they slipped out for a quick word ( heated debate), then the second guy takes over and the first guy comes back etc etc.

I'd rather not go into specifics however as I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they were having a bad day.

In all fairness to them the car was prepped correctly before leaving and everything we asked to be done was done but I've grown very tired of the sales approach of "we are loosing money on this one and barely making ends meet". Every garage was doing it however so that's not a dig at them. I was just sick of it by the time they started.

Thanks, mmmmm, a heated debate in front of a customer is lack of decorum !

Yeah, they all have the same bull**** yearn, loosing money, cost of taking a trade in, bla, bla, bla.

It is but I saw them with the previous customer and I think they were just sick of it by the time we arrived. Not what you want but at the end of the day they're human too.

All in all rough around the edges but the car was turned out correctly which is all we wanted.

As I said go in with your eyes open and stand your ground.

You mean the guys in Sandyford Industrial Estate right? I bought an Audi A4 from them a few years ago and it wasn't great.

They tell you it's been fully serviced. Well a couple of days later the oil pressure light came on. I brought it back and they topped it up. It hasn't gone down since, so it wasn't actually leaking, it's just that it seems they didn't really service the car properly at all.

In our case it needed a few jobs dive that were all visible to the naked eye. Engine oil seemed to be changed as it was nice and golden. At the end if the day I wouldn't put my life in their hands but everything checked out for us.

They have a yard in Furze Road Sandyford Industrial Estate, looks like a typical indie dealer. All of the cars on their website were photographed in exactly the same location, a parking bay beside a wooden handrail which probably means they have no showroom worth talking about and they operate from a portakabin.

Ask yourself this question: where do their cars come from? My guess is auctions so pay special attention to the NCT and service history. The ad claims that there is a service history, ask if that includes invoices (stamps in the service book are useless). Be prepared to get fobbed off with BS when you ask them questions.
