I need to change the 'last modified by' information on a Word doc so that the changes done in Track Changes are done in my name and not the person the copy of Word is licenced to. Is there a way to do this?

Use a different Windows login to edit it?

Change your name by deed poll.

    What version?

in office 2010 you can change the name by choosing "options->general->Personalize your copy."

Change that and it should sort it out

If truly stuck, could open it up with a hex editor (after backing up), find the string listing the other persons name, and (without changing the number of bytes) either stick your name in its place (if it fits), or replace with spaces.

Can you not just Tipp-Ex out the other person's name and stick your own in?

    How could it not work?

If your using Word while logged in as you..Bingo.

Copy it to Notepad first if you think there's some file associations. Then just paste to a new Word Doc.

    Simple college stuff here!

Edit: Nevermind, different situation -> Knex is an idiot

Doesn't work. The values there are set to my name, but it's still saying 'last modified by (person who Word is registered to)

Did you even read the OP?

You could try taking the original file. And the final file (accept all changes that were made). Then do a compare and merge. Not sure if this will def work.

If you right click the file, go to properties - go to the details tab and there might be an option there to "Remove properties and personal information" - clicking that lets you chose what info to keep and what to remove...

    Create a new user account.

    Create a new Word document.

    Copy/paste into the new document.

Save under your new user account.

It will be created/modified/accessed by your new user account.

Is there changes already marked up that you need to keep marked as changes (just in your name?)?

    Whoops. Valid point.

Had my old college system in my mind there.
