Seen this tonight and thought it was thoroughly enjoyable. Really good suspenseful drama with very little needless sentimentality, which you could forgive a film from being, given it's setting and the circumstances which the characters find themselves thrown to.

Sophie Nélisse (who plays the lead, Liesel) is amazing, as are Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson (who play her foster parents).

    Well worth watching.

I saw this last week, I agree its a lovely film, not as good as the book but isn't that always the case?

I think it was better because I read the book, the person who I went to see it with hadn't read the book and didn't like it as much as i did.

I decided to give Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo's podcast another chance - unbearable. In the interview with Emily Watson however, they said that the young actress that she would be working with Emma Watson and not Emily Watson.

    Kermode didn't rate it.

Always thought Into The Wild was a good transfer to the big screen. But I do agree that in most cases the book is always better.

    I haven't read the book.

I've had this film lying around for a couple of years but didn't watch it till this evening.

    It was a good film.
It made me feel sad. I know it tried to soften the blow with the ending but I think it's intention was to not be a happy ending. More to point out how terrible WW2 and war in general is.

John Williams did another grand job with the soundtrack.
