Hi guys complete newbie when it comes to this kinda stuff but can anybody give me a simplified version as to what images are and what is enigma2. Taking out sky and changing to FTA and I'm thinking abt buying a Sab Unix triple tuner but it comes in 2 versions Spark and Enigma2 and I don't know which to choose. I know it's the operating system of the STB but which is best is it to do with Better EPG on Enigma2 or what ? I can't find a simplified answer to it. Also people have spoke about different images to load on the STB's. what is an image and how does it work. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

hi,i think enigma 2 would be the way to go and if you want good support id suggest thinking of a different stb, had a sab a few years ago and was very happy with it but for enigma 2 I think the likes of vu+ have all the support you need,i have an solo2 and find it great, plenty of support and very quick loading, regards

Sab is the same as Amiko and there is a thread in the Terrestrial Forum about all the images , The Sab and Amiko are currently leading the way in Enigma2 at a great price point

I presume that's your personal opinion,I can only speak for the vu+ series of which I have two,the ultimo and solo2 and they have been bullet proof, yes they could be cheaper but the support is well established and has been for some time,if you can affoard a vu+ go for it but at the end of the day its a matter of choice,

Would also highly recommend the Gigablue I've had both the Amiko Alien2 and the gigablue Quad 800 which is far better in my opinion.

You left out the part where I said PRICE POINT !

Just having a quick scout online the VU+ Solo on one website is €319 thats a signal tuner box !

And the dual tuner box is €499

So I stand over my point :P and in relation to images and support you could check the link I posted earlier on.

hi,well the solo 2 is 335euro on adverts, thats the twin tuner,i had a quick google and the first two vu+solos that I came across both came in around the 200euro mark, the dual tuner at 499euro is the vu+duo2 which is an awesome piece of kit, will take one double dvb-s2 tuners and either two more single dvb-s2 tuners or a mix of dvb-s2 and dtt.at the end of the day if you can get a receiver to do all you want of it at a cheaper price well then your on a winner,me im thinking of a tm-twin for my next enigma receiver, best receiver I had for years was the tm 1500 ci+ and the quality of picture was the best around at the time

Im not debating the point there not great receiver's , it comes down to what people can afford , and the end of the day they do pretty much the same thing .

Its like cars , Skoda, VW , Audi , they all pretty much do the same thing but the price move up as you go up the brands.

get a vu+ or gigablue for enigma 2 images, ive had both sab and amiko, both had nothing but had nothing but grief with them, Vu cost a nice bit more but has a far better choice of stable images and plugins,

Just out of curiosity ,in what specific areas is the Quad 800 better ?

Btw the Alien 2 has superior picture quality to any Mips based receiver due to the SH4 chipset .
SD picture quality is much better, its very noticeable on a larger screen.
I was thinking of upgrading to a Gigablue Quad but I recently saw it in action and the SD picture quality was only fair so I decided against it.
