Working but receiving less money?

My friend was on the dole, receiving €130 (under 25,living at home) but recently a local beauty salon she is familiar with, offered her the chance of one days' work a week (permanent).

She hasn't had much luck with jobs but figures it's better than nothing, better than sitting at home. So she went to the dole office and told them she'll be working one day a week.

The dole told her they would re-assess her money and she was sent a letter the other day saying she would now receive €50 a week.
She is getting €50 from the salon for a days' work.

How come she is now getting less money *working* but would have received €130 if she was on the dole fully?

She's out of pocket now for trying to do the right thing.
She was told she's been means-tested, but I'm at a loss as to what's gone on.
If anyone knows what's going on, please can you tell me so I can pass it on?

She was told she can appeal it...something doesn't sound right to me.

I'm trying to find the 'better off at work' calc from the welfare website so I can check the figures but it seems to have disappeared!

This doesn't sound right, I would have thought that they would receive 4/5 of their payment and the €50 wages.

Its like they added the €50 to the family's earnings and this gave a payment of €50.

Ask the office to send out the means test letter, it will go through everything and if possible appeal as soon as possible.
