What would you pay to play your Dream Course?

This is just a little variation on the earlier thread where you were asked what was the one course in the world you wanted to play. Augusta National was by far the most popular choice.

    For this thread;

    1. What was the course?
    2. What would you pay to play there (excluding travel)?
    3. What is the most you have payed to play (excluding a subscription)? And Where?

    For me

    1. National Golf Links of America
    2. I know a member, so mightn't have to pay much!! But for a once in a lifetime, utterly memorable experience I would pay €1,500-2,000
    3. $325 in 1999 at Pebble Beach

    About 300 to 500 euro.

I don't know what I would do if someone said - If you get to Augusta, there is a round next Monday.
It wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility that I would go. If that was the case realistically that is going to cost 1500 euro. I think the wife would pay it , if I wouldn't.

    I know mad.

I just asked her. To prove the hypothetical.

I'd pay no more than a €1000 to play Augusta. That's my limit!

Most I've ever spent was roughly €300 in Hawaii.

I'd probably pay €1,000 to shoot a 79 around Corballis (only using that as it is the lowest Par (67?) I know).

I don't think I would pay anything in the region of that crazy money, put me on a good links in Ireland for 50 or 60 odd quid, the sun shinning and a moderate breeze that keeps you on your toes and I feel like a million dollars no matter how bad I play... I don't think I would enjoy the likes of Augusta as much...

I would prefer a round in Mulranny with the mates for €20 quid than being invited into Augusta... First Up says it's crap anyway :D;)

If I had a 79 it would be straight onto the Dart, off at Tara St and straight into Mulligans.... that'd be the only Mulligan ;)

It may change the more I play but currently I wouldn't dream of spending that kind of money on one round of golf. Plenty of good course's here and in the UK for far less.

I Know you know - but for a 79 in Corballis is a 73 in some strange mathematical twist.

For my next big birthday(if I see it) :-) I'm going to play pebble beach they have packages on their site but it will be at least €2500, the green fee part of that is near $500 if memory serves but club hire and caddy will take it to $700 ish afaik open to correction on that.

I'd love to play Merion too but I can't see that happening much and all as I'd love to.

I know a way of getting a free round for 2 at Augusta through a current promotion running on Facebook but not sure if I can mention it?

Couldn't agree more, We have some of the worlds finest courses between Ireland and the UK, I simply could not justify nor enjoy a game I had to pay 00's or let alone 000's, Don't get me wrong i would love to play the likes of Augusta, Pebble Beach and Congressional, But the cost would out way the enjoyment for me. If I had 2k to spare on a holiday/trip i'd pack up the car Kevin Markham style and bounce all over Ireland and UK.

Any one wanna spot me 2k????

How you play should have no bearing on your enjoyment of the course. Imagine playing a great course e.g. Royal County Down, with great company and in perfect weather, why would your day be ruined just because you hit a few bad shots into the heather and gorse?

Unfortunately for too many, how they view a course or a day out is solely down to how they play. This will lead to a life of misery in golf, because you're going to play badly more often then not.

That's it. Our caddy at Pebble told us to forget about the card as the amount of people paying 500 bucks to leaving in a bad temper was unbelievable.

    Jeez Keano

    that's €55.55 a hole,
knowing my luck it would start bogey, double, double and then the frustration would take from the enjoyment:)

At least your cost per shot would go down.... :D
€1,000.... I would expect to get mine to well under €7.50 per shot....
Lads breaking a 100 would be paying more than a tenner a shot, mad for a bargain I am ;)

Agree with this - but I tend to get so excited about playing these places - I play poor, I'm over intimidated by them

I think they are going to be unscorable - then ironically they end up being as a result.

To be honest - I just lack experience on the big ones - so hopefully with time.
I don't think it diminishes my enjoyment - but it is a thing in the back f my mind, that I didn't play well.

The cheapest I have ever known to get a round at Augusta is €20k unless you know a member ;)

If I got offered to play a round at Augusta for 1k id jump at the chance!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,939 ✭✭✭Russman

Hard to know what I'd actually say if someone offered me a round in Augusta for €1k, probably jump at it, if I had the cash. Its a lot of money for a round of golf though..........hmmmm, its Augusta though.
Then again, forget the name Augusta, and there's so many others probably "better", like Pine Valley, National Golf Links etc.

Played TPC Sawgrass a couple of times, but don't know exactly what the green fee was, it was part of a package.

I would love to hear the top Pro's views as they have played them all.
Would be interesting as Augusta without the masters is a totally different course.

How exactly? Bar changing pins and tees how can it be totally different?

I mean I am sure most of them would not rate Augusta as their fav course...

Weren't there a whole pile of people - mainly irish - who 'bought' Sawgrass during the boom and got a free trip out there - about 2006 or so? I'd say their dream round cost them a lot more than 1K in the end.:)

Yeah, I think so. Wasn't it the same crew that own(ed) Tulfarris ?
Unfortunately we paid in full for our trip in 2008 :D, although it was actually a very good price, well, a good price.
