GAA Rounders is one of the four official GAA sports, along with Gaelic Football, Hurling and Handball. Rounders has been a GAA Sport from the origin of the GAA and was included in the original GAA Charter back in 1884.

It is played by all age groups, from national school children all the way to and including senior level. There are both mixed teams where Boys and Girls, as well as Men and Women can play on the same team, as well as seperate teams for Males & Females. As Rounders is a limited contact sport, it is perfect for both recreational and competitive play. It also draws on a different set of skills than the conventional GAA games and is very good for developing hand-eye coordination.

A strategic plan for rounders was announced last November and it aims to have established a rounders club in many GAA clubs by 2016

I think rounders is fantastic game and one of the most inclusive of all GAA games-

Would many be interested in playing Senior Rounders??

I've contacted the secretary in hope that they can direct me where to go from here and can report back any info I get

    Any feedback appreciated

Within the integration plan of the GAA, rounders and handball will become part of the one club model. It is being protrayed as a sport that anyone can take up - if a club can field a football and a hurling team, then every club should be able to field a rounders team

Contact the office in Croke Park and they will direct you how to go

but the strategic plan says ...
Over that period the strategy aims to increase playing numbers from 600 to 2,000, clubs from 21 to 35 and schools from 100 to 250.

it would be a very ambitious plan indeed to start a new team in a new sport in every club in 2 years.

Any interest in playing? Will this initiative deliver?

I took it up about a month ago and I absolutely love it. It's a great sport where you have to use logic and be aware of what's going on all around you. I played in school back in the day but with a tennis racket / foam bat, very different from the aluminum bat and sliotar! (Can be sore!!)
Delighted I took it up, it's one of few sports I can play with my husband. We would never be involved with the GAA otherwise.

I think clubs should at least make an effort to start rounders.
Same with handball - though which is played far more.

I'm not sure if I'd play now but seeing as baseball is one game I would have loved to have played (and it's quite similar to rounders) it's a pity I didn't have an opportunity to play rounders when I was younger.

No real age limit to play rounders

    Never too late!
