Does this car look legit?

Saw an ad on DoneDeal but I'm a bit sceptical after reading an article on The Journal last week in collaboration with the AA saying there has been a lot of car scams involving NCT/TAX discs with good future expiry dates.

This car has a NI number plate, could someone take a quick look and tell me what they think, it's not an NCT disc but an NI version of one.

The car is a good 45 minutes from me so I don't want to go on a wild goose chase.

I saw the ad last week for €875, he's since taken it down and put up a new one for €795.

    Here it is:

Seems legit enough. But still be cautious.

Thanks for that. That's what a NI version of an NCT disc is suppose to look like yah? I thought it was called an MOT in the UK. Think that's what is putting me off.

Neither tax or MOT are that particularly long.

Car is priced very cheap but Im assuming that is taking the fact that it requires VRT to be paid into account. Get someone to check it over before buying of course (as you should with any car purchase), but there is nothing in that ad that really alarms me.

Its called a vehicle test certificate in the the north. It might be an idea to do some googling to make sure.

I know nothing really of the MOT, but a quick Google suggests that the disc looks correct at least.

Run a Motorcheck (or if there is a UK equivalent) if you want to be sure.

Doesn't really look to dodgy as such, but.......It's illegal to sell a Foreign registered car in the Ireland.

Yes, someone else told me that yesterday. I'm just not very good at this type of thing. I'm not even sure about VRT, I read up on it before but I thought it was a once off payment made by whoever brought it into the country and that it had to be paid within a very short time frame of doing so.

Might just stick with an Irish reg and cut out the hassle.

Thanks for that, didn't even see that and it's obvious in two of the photos.

Yea, it needs to be done fairly soon after import, your meant to book it in for inspection within 7 days, and the registration process complete within 30 days.

But honestly I don't think it's a sticking point for them, but buying a non VRT car might raise some questions, personally I'd rather the seller (assuming they are the importer) pay it first and then buy it or just buy a different one on Irish reg plates.

A lot of panels on that car don't match colour, the aftermarket Lexus style rear lights would not inspire confidence in me either. NI tax and MOT have no relevance down south. I wouldn't touch it to be honest. Plenty of similar Focus for sale here so no need to settle for a dog.

    This one looks cleaner imo:

Thats a much better example. The OP's link has seen paint a few times judging by the pics.
