    Just wondering can anyone answer my question ? - During the xmas storms the neighbouring farmers shed was severely damaaged, hence it has to be rebuilt. The shed was built probably 1960's ish. Question is are they allowed to extend the shed without planning? They are extending it at least 15ft in our direction and at least twice that in the other? TIA

    they can extend their shed but the entire area of shed space cannot be more than 25 sq meters

    this is from a planning website for a dublin county council, not sure about how relevant it is across the country

    Can I build a garden shed on my property without permission?

    Yes, provided that:
    • It is not forward of the front wall of the house;
    • Not greater than 25sqm (or no. of sheds aggregated);
    • 25sqm of garden space is left. N.B. extensions attached to house are not reckoned as private open space;
    • Shed finish is in keeping with the house;
    • Shed height: max 4m pitched roof; 3m flat roof;
    • It is not lived in or used for keeping of animals (pigs, ponies, horses, pigeons).

    That's of no relevance to the OP as the regulations for farm building are different.

    If this is for a garden type shed does this just apply to permanent structures as i have been told that the likes of the steel sheds that can be bolted to the concrete base are not a permanent structure and therefore somehow exempt. I would like to build a 30 sq meter shed and was curious. I do intend seeking clarification from someone in authority but before i do so do anyone know the answer on here?

    Thank you for the replies. its not a garden shed greenbicycle so I wouldnt think these terms apply. Thanks for reply anyway. Its a farmers outbuilding-shed. At present (before storms) it was used to house bailes only. He is now looking to rebuild it bigger and use it for 'multi purpose' (his words). I have googled it but its all double dutch to me tbh :-/ However, frm what DPM1 says its seems it might not be a permanent structure and therfore exempt. Would this be right ??? seems madness to me, as its probably 50/60yrs old and it will block light to our house if farmer does what he proposes :-(

    Forgive my curtness but you have been told complete and utter bullsh!t.

    There is no provision for temporary structures in exempted development other than strict regulations regarding caravans.
