2011/2012 - Fiesta, Polo or alternatives

I am looking at purchasing a used car - most likely 2 or 3 years old. I had Honda's all my life (Civic for past 5 years) but looking for something a little smaller as a 2nd car. I've looked at Fiesta's and Polo's mainly so far - leaning towards a 1.4 TDCi Fiesta at the moment. Are there any known issues with either of these cars that I should look out for. Any recommendations on alternatives - I'd love to have stayed with Honda but the Jazz probably a little on the small side.

The Jazz is not smaller than the Fiesta or Polo, in fact the Jazz is roomier than both. Also does your annual mileage and type of driving warrant a diesel car as most cars in this class are frugal enough in petrol form and there is a wider choice.

Annual mileage would be about 15k miles. Diesel possibly not essential. I had't thought the Jazz was that big but looking in more detail it seems to be reasonably big - impressive looking folding seats when needed too...

Brand new Suzuki swift ? @12995 euro inc six months tax and 3 years warranty, seems attractive on the face of it ?

I've heard good things about the Hyundai i10. Try test drive one.

I'd go for a Fiesta 1.25 myself(make sure its the 81bhp version), smashing little car. Looks good and drives well.

Suzuki Swift and Audi A1 are alternatives.

Punto Evo. I haven't driven one, but worth looking at. Ignore the Corsa anyway, you'd be quicker being towed by a hive of bees.

They wouldn't sting your wallet as much as a corsa either :pac:

Punto Evo is a really nice looking car, and it's supposed to be pretty reliable but I wouldn't go with the basic 1.2 60 hp engines.

You can get a 1.4 turbo 120 hp but would be rare in Ireland, worth a trip to the north or U.K ? you'll find one there.

Punto Evo is a rare car on Irish roads but quiet nice IMO.

I've driven the 1.2 in the corsa and the 1.0 3 cylinder, the 3 cylinder is pure dirt and not suitable for a car, 3 cylinders are a big step backwards as they are horribly slow and rough.

The 81 hp 1.2 fiesta sounds better but the 1.3 diesels in the corsa or Punto would be a better bet if you can't find a decent petrol. Better torque for a better drive.

It's very hard to find small cars with decent engines in Ireland because most dealers in Ireland do not have more than 3 of the weakest engine choices on the options list.
