So my NCT is on Thursday but the passenger side electric window is acting up. Will this fail me anyone know? All other windows working fine.

Obvious but it isn't locked from the drivers side is it?

Not tested for the passenger side so don't worry about it for the NCT As said it's hardly just locked? Sounds silly but you'd be surprised.

No not locked! It works the odd time but think the regulator is gone. Cheers for the replies!

How did ye get on Niallo ?
    Anything said?

    ya ta

" Opening mechanism of driver’s window not operating."

You would think they should check operation of all of them most be dropped for timing purposes

A more realistic reason is that the driver should be capable of making hand signals. It's even part of the driving test that drivers must know and demonstrate hand signals.

Passed with flying colours! Didn't get to see if they tested the passenger window, it works sometimes and sometimes not so if they did I must have been lucky!

You did not need to be lucky. It is not tested. As slimjimmn said the necessity to open the drivers window is to give hand signals.

Check the section of wiring loom that goes from the pillar to the door.

I've the same problem ... Passenger window has never worked since I got the car second hand last October. Last week I put down the driver window and it wouldn't go back up. Took it to a mechanic and he put up the window but said it'll be 380 to fix properly! I'll need that done for the NCT I know ...

But here's the thing, the mechanic told me that there has been a recent change to NCT rules and now all windows need to be operational (for escape in an accident he said) ... that's nearly e800 for the two windows

Anyone tell me was the mechanic right or was he maybe just chancing his arm to get some extra money from me ....?

Well my NCT was only two weeks ago and my passenger window has issues, passed with flying colours! Thing about my passenger window is it works sometimes, so not sure if it was tested because it may have just happened to work that particular time.

No, he's talking rubbish. My wife's car passed just last week with a front passenger window which cannot be opened at the moment.

Also, €380 for a proper fix on your driver's dorr sounds steep - personally Iwouldn't give him either job.

You will not fail the NCT on the passenger window not opening

regulator from http://www.traynors.co.uk/ free delivery to most towns

That's great to know, I nearly died when he told me I'd need the two of them done! I'm definitely going to look around for a better price to get the driver window done, I can surely get better than €380...

    Thanks everyone! :)

    What car is it?

Also, I'm a firm believer in looking at a car yourself and then putting it through the test and they'll tell you exactly what's wrong. Much cheaper than paying a mechanic to look at it.

Nct doesnt show all faults. 2 days before I was due to take my test, I started to hear like a knocking when I was braking. Partner started to feel the brake pedal juddering slightly under his foot driving it in for its test (too late to cancel, and anyway I assumed it woukd tell me what was wrong) imagine our shock when it flew it. But a week later I changed both rear discs problem solved.

Just in case anyone is still following this thread ... My car had it's NCT last week and failed on the driver window going down but they said nothing to me about the passenger window needing to work! Good to confirm what I was told in here :-)
