Liam Neeson Giving Up the Rashers?

All religion is bollox to me and while I understand that the man might be 'looking for something' after the tragic death of his wife. This story in the article kind of creeped me out.
He added: “In Istanbul, the Muslim call to prayer starts at 5am.

“For the first week it was hard to take, in the second week I thought it was quite nice and by the third week I was totally captivated by it."

This is what being drawn into a cult is like. This is classic brainwashing. Another thing too is that Dervish Dancing as nice as it looks, is about brainwashing the dancer and putting them into a trance so they shut off any independent thinking.

    Yeah, that's what he said.

Although it is all a load of bollox though.

He must have a film out and be looking for publicity. Otherwise why is a two year old story being recirculated?

Yes, that is exactly what he said. What's the problem. It's all objectively bollocks, but the OP has stated in his opinion (which is subjective), it is bollocks.

The call to prayer is brainwashing...? If that was the case, the chruch bells at 6pm would have re-converted the nation back to Catholicism...

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 892 ✭✭✭GenieOz

Ah so what, ya should go visit the Vatican City for a while if you wanna see what that feels like, but from a Christianity side.

The only difference between a cult and a major religion is the amount of people in it.

And as for the Angelus...Jaysus run to the hills before you're truly brainwashed!

I'm sure Liam Nelson is intelligent enough not to be drawn in by 'A Cult', as you put it OP. But if its teachings help him find comfort, good luck to him.

Although I see a big difference, between being interested in something, compared to being drawn in and brainwashed.

Most cults are filled with intelligent people. That's a myth that only idiots join cults. You'll find more PhDs in cults than halfwits. All it takes is for a major life crisis and the cult leader shows up with the 'answer'.

Where did you get the information about the number of PhD's and halfwit cult members?

No, it's to induce a trance in which the dancer feels a deep and ecstatic connection with the divine. You know, like yokes like.

    's and
Where did you get the information about the number of PhD's and halfwit cult members?

Marshall Applewaite of Heaven's Gate successfully recruited hundreds of scientists and engineers during the 1970's and 80's. His speeches at universities such as CAL Tech, UCLA and Stamford due large audiences and at the end of talk would get up to 20 people to sign up for courses on how to get messages from aliens. Heaven's Gate at the time of the mass suicide had internet resources most major corporations had yet to exploit. Same with the Solar Temple crowd. Cults need lots of money so they target highly qualified people in emerging technology sectors.

and with terrifyingly high rates of success.

Why? Does it have a brand new definition I should know about? Or are you simply firing sh1t from a scattergun in your campaign to sound clever?

Leave the man in peace I say. Why make a thread about Liam Neeson converting to Islam? What effect does it have on anyone's life other then Liam's?

It's a rehash of a two year old story, although I'm not seeing any evidence that Liam Neeson said "Islam is the answer" barring some claims on Islamophobic or extreme-right blogs.

The claim that Sufi dervishes (among the most moderate of Muslims) represent a form of brainwashing is a novel one OP, I'll give you that.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,452 ✭✭✭✭The_Valeyard

Exactly. This is ab old story with little substance.

Just an excuse to bash organised religion thread.

    /leaves.

Man investigates personal philosophy/spirituality, finds an aspect he likes.
I however dismiss this because I know better, plus I read a Dawkins book once.
