Claiming Benefits for first time

I come from Galway originally, now live in Dublin, will be unemployed in a few weeks. Can I register for benefits in my local social welfare office in Dublin, or do I have to register in Galway?

Also, when it comes to providing proof of address, is it enough to provide a recent bill that was addressed to someone else in the house? No bills have ever been addressed specifically to me while living at this address. And do they keep the bill or just take a copy of it?

You will apply at your nearest sw office. Proof of address ..... tenancy agreement with your name on it... or a recent bank statement with your name and address on it,. You will have to have photo id e.g. passport and drivers/l .... p45 or letter from employer and if you received a redundancy package... then the amount you received.
