Hi all, so I've decided to build my first PC, a little background on me I'm a mechanical engineering student in NUIG. I'm starting a work placement and I want to use the money I earn for a new PC. I have little experience with components and the physical side of things so in that respect I am a novice but insofar as knowledge of computers I would say I have more experience than your average person and I want to learn more.
    In other words be gentle.

So what do I want it to do:
I would like it to be able to handle new-ish games, so for example, being able to run Assassins Creed: Black Flag comfortably would be good. Also being able to run programs like AutoCAD Inventor or Solidworks comfortably is a must too.

I have a budget of about €1500 but lower would be better, this is to cover everything inside the tower, the monitor, the OS The other peripherals I can get myself through friends.

I do a lot of 3D modelling and rendering in my work and spare time so a quality graphics card is a must.

Window's 7 Professional will be the operating system on board, I'm not looking to dual boot it really, unless it will give me extra performance.

Extra bits: I have an external 3TB drive that I would like to fit into the tower as its main hard drive, with a separate SSD for the OS.
Also I have a personal attachment to intel so the chip will be one of theirs and the graphic's card will probably be a Nividia, however if someone can convince me to go with AMD I am willing to move on this stance.

With all this in mind I put together this build (just as a base to start from): http://pcpartpicker.com/p/32NtN

    Core: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor

Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler

Board: ASRock Fatal1ty Z87 Killer ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

    RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 760 2GB Video Card

Memory: A-Data Premier Pro SP600 128GB 2.5" Solid State Disk + WD 3TB external drive

    Network Card: TP-Link TL-WDN4800 802.11a/b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter

Case: Corsair Air 540 ATX Desktop Case

    Thanks in advance guys

If you're waiting that long before a purchase, come back later on. There'll most-likely be newer parts out by then, and pricing on current parts will have changed. 1-2 weeks before purchase is usually best.

As a whole it's all compatible, etc. I'd probably drop to a lower motherboard, and maybe include a better CPU cooler and/or GPU money-permitting.
