Rent supplement backdated

    I was made redundant 17th of january,and applied for jobseekers supplement and rent allowance on 20th
    I was told by lady in Carlow county council that i must be on social housing list to receive rent supplement.She told my that normally it takes two weeks to process application for social housing list.
    Two weeks latter i received letter saying that i have to supply letter about my income from jobseekers supplement wich i did very same day.
    And also lady in council told me that i must send my rent supplement application to Dublin when i receive letter that i have been accepted on scocial housing list,because local councils don't deal with rent supplements anymore.Apperantely rent application should have sticker ( :confused: ) from county council housing departament

    all seems very odd to mes,as i was renting past 8 years,and according to citizensinformation website i should qualify(minimum 6 months renting) without being on housing list,and without any "stickers".
    I have to pay rent in few days,and i wont have enough cash for it.
    I didn't even received confirmation that i am on housing list.
    So lets say i will get letter next week,and will post out my rent supplement application which hopefully will only take two weeks to process it.
    So i will loose two months rent supplement because all these new rules

    Will i be able to claim my rent supplement backdated to 20th January?
    And is lady behind counter making up story about new rules,about being on social housing list to be accepted,and dealing with Dublin rent supp office by post?

    I really have no cash to pay for rent,and certainly wont have next month if i wont receive supplement.Don't want to end it up on the street with family over unpaid rent

    You dont need to be on a council list per say but it helps.Your renting history should qualify you for RA

    if you qualify it will be backdated to the date you applied, maybe try deal with someone else, this woman seems a bit clueless or is deliberatly trying to put you off, hang on in there.it is the case in Dublin that health centres dont deal with this anymore it would be one of the rent units,central ,northside and they are a nightmare to get in touch wit I hope its easier for you but be prepared (just in case) for an enormous pain in the ar*e but keep at it and if for some reason they refuse your application appeal.
