ps3 and power outages

    Ps3 working fine earlier then we had a sudden power outage. It will not power up now. All other devices in the room ste working fine but no joy with ps. How screwed am I or are there repair options? Thanks in advance. Not sure if I'm in right forum.

    Did you check/replace the fuse?

    Was the PS3 turned on during this outage, if so, I would suspect HDD damage / File system corruption if it was being written too. If you live in an area where this happens often, you may want to invest in a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) they typically will run for a few minutes to maybe 30 depending on the load you put on them, unless you wire some deep cycle batteries into the loop which are designed to run flat when recharged ( do not use car batteries, those are designed to be recharged continuously when in use. You could have it set up to power a few desktops and your PS3 and whatever else for a few hours. It just depends on how much money you have to spend, and how much time you want to invest and your level of technical knowledge in electronics. If the unit was turned off, then I would suspect a rouge spike ran into your system and possibly fried your poor PS3 in which case, changing the power supply may or may not suffice and I am really sorry to hear about your loss. I really hope it was the first case scenario as a HDD can be replaced and they aren't all that expensive, I just hope you save your game saves to a thumb drive like I do, but yes I know, some games won't allow it. Bastards-> Sony.

    What model is your PS3?
    When you plug it in, does the stand-by red light comes in front of the console or not?
