Friend has following problem with satellite receiver.

When the landline phone rings, it causes the satellite channels to freeze and scrambled comes up on screen. You need to power off and on again to get it to work again.

    Setup is as follows:

Feed from dish to box using twin sat cable.
Broadband router other side of wall from Sat receiver, with cordless phone on sa me table.

    Thanks

Yeah, Cordless phones can do this, how close is the base station to the Sat Box, can you move it further away.

I haven't posted about a thing illegal here. Just want to try and see if I can eradicate this problem

Base station is the other side of a 4 inch wall..... and directly beside the receiver

It's not, but the method used by the user to get premium TV channels is! although as the OP has stated he hasn't mentioned that. I'll leave the rest to the mods.

So the box just locks up & no channels work? Strange that 'scrambled' would come up for FTA channels.*

*I am aware of the other locked thread.

I doubt it would show scrambled on the FTA channels, surely it's be "No signal" if there was something interfering with signal quality which can happen with those cordless phones. More like something interrupting the broadband connection and in that context, locking the other thread was a good call.

This reminds me of a Father Ted ep, The Passion of St Tibulus.
    But i can't say no more ;)

DECT phone works in the frequency range 1880-1900 mHz.

Normally only causes problems for services that fall within the DECT band when downconverted by the LNB, such as those on 12480 mHz. Shouldn't be an issue if decent cable with proper screening is used.
