Maximum number of private vehicles sales in one year?

As the title suggests, I'm looking to know if/what the maximum number of vehicles (cars) a private person can sell in Ireland in one year? That is, before Revenue/DoT would start to care (if there is a limit).

I've been told there is a limit, but can't find anything on Revenue's website, so if you have a link to back up I'd appreciate it.

In this scenario, all the cars would be registered in the private persons name.

    Cheers!

There was a figure mentioned for VRT purposes of 5 previously, don't think any was mentioned for normal private sale.

I had a figure of around 5 in my head, but to be honest its entirely possible that is based on hearsay more than actually regulations.

I suspect that it may well come down to a case by case basis. If I buy a car from one of these guys who are playing car dealer from their back yard and I have reason to require some form of warranty cover after the purchase, then if it were to go before a judge and I could show that he sold X number of cars in the past 12 months or whatever then I would imagine that it would put serious pressure on the seller to try and prove that they are not in fact a car dealer.

I once shifted 7 in a year .. Had local people telling me the revenue or something would be onto me , but nothing . And I signed logbooks and did everything correctly . So the department of transport knew I owned and sold 7
Cars in one year . Sell away OP . You wil be sound

Revenue might not take an interest, but as a dealer you have a much higher obligation towards your buyer than a normal private seller would, and if a buyer were to persue you about an issue with a car that you have sold, and they can show that you sold 7 cars in a year (something that is perfectly possible to do nowadays with the advent of sites like Donedeal) then you are going to have a hard time convincing anyone that you made 7 legitimate private sales in a 12 month period.

I'm not a car dealer . And the majority of that 7 were swaps/ part exchanges . But my name would still have been on the logbooks and signed off the logbook once deal was done with buyer. And every deal/ exchange was legitimate
