Do people used feed to attract birds? IE. Putting food in an area alot when you're not shooting as to get birds in the habit of coming to your land? Is it legal etc?

Pheasant feeders are a common practice and nothing illegal about them, other birds will benefit as well which in my opinion is a bonus.

I rear birds for the gun club, we have just under 1000 acres and we have 25 feeders. I just have wheat in them , never bothered with any sort of mix. Can get 25kg of wheat for €3 in bulk buys of 1 tonne so thats how I do it.

    Wild pheasants? In Ireland? Lol
Kiddin mate. Just be careful where your putting them and who else is on the land. Came across two this year which seemed to be used for targets by idiots.

i put rolled barley into mine and it works fine i used to fill the hoppers with wheat but the birds always spilled it out and wasted it so changed over to rolled barley where theres no waste now.

Ah crap , Limerick a good 4hr drive from me ! Have you asked farmers can you buy it when the harvest is on? We used to buy off a local farmer when he was cutting and for the same price he would have been getting so it was no loss to him.

We wouldn't have a big lot of tillage farmers down this way especially harvesting wheat. We're paying 8.00 euro a 25 kg bag for it.!! Expensive feeding birds

€8.00 for a 25kg  ?? Id call €6 expensive , thats from a place I know up this way and everything they have is expensive ! What about beef farmers? A lot of lads feed them on crushed wheat and barley. They might be able to order an extra tonne and pass it on to you next time theyre buying feed

That might be an option alright, I will get on to a couple of farmers I know. Thanks
