As a novice how would one make a whiskey sour using ingredients available to purchase in Dublin?

Would JD Whiskey be ok to use?

That would make a really ****e and too sour sour. The have way too much lemon and lime.... 4 each for 4 cocktails. I'd be gagging.

JD will do OP, I'd prefer Jim Beam myself though. I'd use the International Bartenders Recipe. It's simpler and nicer than most.

45 ml JD, 30 ml Lemon Juice*, 15ml Sugar Gomme (NOT Simple Syrup, must be 2:1.) and a small smidgen of Egg white.

Put all ingredients into a shaker WITHOUT Ice and shake for a minute, then put a good lot of ice in shake for around 30 seconds and strain into a glass over ice.

Garnish with Orange slice and maraschino cherry.

I've used this recipe and it really is lovely, and I say that as someone who doesn't even like whiskey. Also, while it'll add a small bit of sweetness to balance everything perfectly, cherrys aren't strictly necessary IMO.

Its quick and easy, if you don't know how to make sugar gomme just get 2 cups of sugar, 1 cup of boiling water, mix and stir til it's clear.

Stay away from sweet and sour mixes, use sugar syrup, ice and if you can get a better whiskey. Egg white is optional, it adds a bit of froth to the cocktail and holds it all together.
