Hi, I have heard that feeding rolled oats to cows (suckler) coming up to calving gives them a good energy boost. I am currently feeding them restricted hay and silage. They are also getting precalver mineral dust. I am wondering how much rolled oats per cow should I feed. Thanks

I do as you, & give 3 (500g butter tubs) or double handfuls of rolled oats per cow

400 per ton in 25kg bags, trying it out for the first time this year on 2yr old maiden heifers, silage very good this year hopefully it will avoid difficult calving

Don't see how feeding more energy will reduce calving issues when they are on good silage

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

If they have plenty of minerals it mightnt work out that dear . I got 20kg bags of that sea weed meal for €25 and they are supposed to get at least 100g per head at least a day . I was thinking after that a good nut with the right minerals might work out cheaper and handier than mixing the two .

We give seaweed with oats, just dairy nuts after. The seaweed has iodine & selenium plus other vitamins which help clean & get back incalf early

So redbull it's costing 80 cents a day. I'm getting the seaweed meal for 1.2e a kg, and oats for 270 a ton so 100g of seaweed and 1kg of oats is costing 39 cents.

Cant argue with the sums blue . Do you use any other type minerals or just the seaweed meal ? Its my first time using them and I'm just wondering is there anything better in other types ?

    Crude protein18%
    Oats
    Soya
    Wheat feed
    Vit A
    Vit b12
    Copper
    Selenium
    Iodine
    Cobalt
    Magnesium

From what I read here maybe I should feed rolled oats+precalver minerals
