I have 80 young holly plants going in approx 18'' in height . I have made up rabbit guards etc . Is it advisable to nip out the leader to encourage side growth in such immature and newely planted bushes which would not have extensive root systems established yet.
I have received such advise from local ''sages'' but should i wait until next year late winter/ early spring . they will have to endure northerly elements but will get good sun .
I can post photos but it will be a few days.
