Have a 3ltr Nissan patrol, & the fuel gauge has gone haywire! Has anyone encountered this problem?

Hi. It started out with the reserve light coming on' even with the gauge 1/2 way! Now it's @ 3/4 mark. I'm thinking its something wrong with sender unit in diesel tank or dash.
