No it is just our address and a random number. I was only at gurteen college once on a farm walk.

National butcher academy in ballinasloe do training. Otherwise you gotta do it apprenticeship style and be trained by a butcher in a shop or supermarket

Funny thing is you have to be unemployed to get into Joe Hayes 'academy'.

Teagasc do a good course out of Dublin. It's supposed to be a great course for the likes of us farmers that might be thinking of killing their own and selling direct. It deals with all from killing, butchering to pricing marketing and distribution. It's something like €600 (l think) for the 3 days.

James whelan butchers do an evening course in basic domestic butchery for around €200. Look up their website. They run out of Thurles and Dublin. A good introductory course to see if you have the stomach for it. I hadn't :( he had hardly opened his mouth and l had to leave or l would have been on the floor! !! I bought his book at Christmas instead :D

Kind of half knew, but this course confirmed it for me with minimal time or financial commitment. I'm squeamish. I really wish I could get over it but that's just the way it is! You can't be good at everything :D

Here you go. It's coming up in April.

I had prices wrong, was multiplying by 2. €300 for this 2 day course. Give them a bell. Margaret will explain exactly what they go through in the couple of days.

    I think whelan's evening course is €99.

    Hope this is of help.
