Do they actually do a better job than manual brushes?
If so what would be the features to invest in and which ones are just gimmicks?

(Hoping for more of a scientific discussion than a what do you use one)

I must have a natural groove in one of my front teeth.
I go for a clean at the dentist and within three months, I get a stain right down the middle of one of my front teeth.
    (big tea/coffee drinker)
Its working out expensive getting the teeth cleaned twice a year.
Would an electric toothbrush do the same job as the one in the dentist?
Its it the brush that I need to consider, or the toothpaste?

floss is to be used with brushing, not instead of. if you don't floss, you leave half the dirt behind. (apt username by the way!)

re tea/coffee... do you drink it black?

    No, just lots of it!

Just want to know if the electric brush is worth the investment, ie, will it do what the dentist does in terms of cleaning

Am in the same bout as you 40andover. Electric toothbrush doesn't help me remove the stains(got 2 teeth that seem to get stained). I'd get the e-toothbrush anyway though, dentists seem to think its worth while, but probably wont help with the stains much.
