For the past 12 months or so there have been a lot of channel frequency changes due to satellite changes, this will happen again in the next 12 months or so with the channels on the Eutelsat satellite moving to the Astra satellites. Generally changes aren't that frequent.

No FTA satellite receiver will auto update channel/frequency changes, this only happens with Sky or Freesat receivers.

    ITV1 HD changed frequency yesterday.

Anyone not savvy with the technology should be using freesat branded boxes.

I imagine there are many people who had generic boxes installed scratching their heads wondering where such and such a channel is gone and calling the installer giving grief.

Any decent installer I know gave up installing generic FTA receivers as a long term solution to Free UK channels in or about 2008 since the launch of Freesat.
FTA satellite kits are so freely available cheap now in a box from Aldi/Lidl, DIY shops and TV shops.

That's true but many cowboys jumped on the bandwagon.

    New TP
    London (21000), Granada (21010), Meridian (21020) & Central (21030) are all on
    11097 V 23000

    UTV HD (20780) 11053 H 22000

    London (20800) & Granada (20810) are still available on 11068 V 23000

Sky boxes can not tune s/r 23000 manually

Tell me about it. The cowboys and the cute hoors have the business ruined.
What i have come across a lot over the last few years was the password been changed on them comag made models such as the Triax sr110 or the Televees that people got for €100 cheaper installed thinking it was the last word, that is until they started to lose channels then they either couldn't contact the original guy who flogged it to them or he wanted a fortune to call back to retune it. As 1 woman said to me she is now left with a pig in a poke.

Not exactly true, any Linux Sat box running Enigma can use the autobouquets plugin to scan and update the changes on a schedule

    What receiver are you using?

ITV/UTV HD frequencies and other parameters can be found here - http://www.lyngsat.com/Eutelsat-28A-and-Astra-2A-2E-2F.html

Yes, I was aware of that but decided to not to mention it, didn't want to complicate the issue further for someone new to FTA sat reception and already had a receiver.

On a Sky box? The only HD version of ITV that can be tuned in with "Other Channels" is UTV HD: 11053 MHz, H. pol., SR 22000.
